The Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) is one of the world s leading bodies for research within the environmental sciences. In the UK, NERC is the leading funder and participant in research to understand our environment and to develop business partnerships, guidance and policies that deliver knowledge, skills and technology to meet innovation needs and support growth with responsible environmental management. NERC, through its component organization the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (CEH), has been central to a number of important national and international risk assessment programs for chemicals. These include fate and exposure assessments for existing and emerging substances; fate modelling of nanomaterials in river catchment; modelling engineered nanoparticle bioavailability in soils and waters; critical loads modelling for metals, and the refinement of trace metals and nanomaterial chemistry and characterisation techniques. The NERC team working in CaLIBRAte has extensive experience of Engineered Nano Material (ENM) fate, bioavailability and effects assessment for invertebrates and microbial communities supported by an analytical infrastructure for trace metals, stable isotopes and ENM characterisation.

NERC will contribute expertise in environmental fate and effects assessment in WP3, WP5 WP6, WP7 and WP8.
